Alan Langford Brown
Passed away at Sunnyside Home, Kitchener Ontario on March 26, 2023 at the age of 77 years.
Beloved brother of Anne (Evan), Susan (Gordon), Sally (Gene), Robert (Marion) and Dave (Dee). Alan was a special uncle to Denise, Daryl, Cindy, Michelle, Heather and Ryan and son of the late Wes and Betty Brown.
Alan was born in Stratford, Ontario and attended the Stratford Teacher’s College and after teaching jobs in Essex, Milton and Toronto he became a public school librarian for the Peel Board of Education at Brian W. Fleming Public School (formerly Havenwood PS) in Mississauga for 35 years. Always an avid reader, Alan loved his role in the library especially reading books to kindergarten children. He often brought in grade six students as library assistants. Alan loved 60’s rock and roll music and science fiction books and films such as Star Trek.
After retirement in 2002, Alan set up an Ontario Plaques website in which he photographed various provincial plaques from around the province. He asked for assistance from people in far-flung areas of the province to take photo’s of plaques in their area and send them to him for inclusion on his website. This site is still available to view. At the suggestion of his family, he moved back to Kitchener, Ontario in 2017 where he had lived in the 1960’s. Alan’s health soon began to decline as dementia took hold.
Cremation has taken place.
Donations to the Toronto Public Library or Sunnyside Home, Kitchener in honour of Alan and would be appreciated. Alan’s family wishes to thank the staff of University Gates Retirement, the sixth floor staff at Grand River Hospital and the team at Freeport Hospital and Sunnyside Home for their wonderful care of Alan.
