Douglas G. Collins
Douglas G Collins of Cambridge Ontario passed away peacefully at home with Mary Ellen his wife of 55 years by his side. Doug was born to Alice (2019) and Reg (1975) Collins on July 28th, 1948. The protective oldest brother to Archie (Jo-Anne), Linda Gibson, Bonnie (Russel 2017) Cardinell, Dave (Mandy), Don (Leanne), Reg and Ken (Renata).
Doug’s proudest moments came from being a devoted father to Tina (Jeff 2024) Cassidy, and Doug Jr. (Erica) Collins. He then was blessed to be the most caring Grandfather to Kendra (Mason), Lorinda (Keishon), Noel, Aimee (Brandon), and Kasey. His newest honour was becoming Great Grandfather to Sadie Rose.
Doug was proud to be a distinguished gentleman of the Kinsmen Club of Preston. He was also a member of the Hespeler Legion Branch 272. Doug was a Toronto Maple Leafs fan and a die-hard Darrell Waltrip fan! Auto Racing was a passion of Doug’s as a young man and he continued to watch his grandkids race over the years. Doug worked diligently for Clare Brothers for 33 years then Reillo till his retirement in 2020. In his retirement years, Doug enjoyed his morning coffees with friends at Timmies, tinkering in his woodshop in his spare time and spending weekends busy cutting the grass or watching his grandchildren race at Sauble Speedway.
Doug is predeceased by his father and mother-in-law; Henry and Evelyn Calvank, Brothers-in-law, Henry (Bud) and Rick Calvank, and grandchildren Sammie (1998) and Jenna (2002). He will be greatly missed by a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
At his request cremation has taken place, a service will be held at St John Anglican Church at 567 Queenston Rd, Cambridge, ON N3H 3J9. on September 14th at 1 pm. A Reception to follow at the church.
Our family would like to thank the liver clinic at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital and his palliative care team who continued to support him until the end.
