Eleanor Murray Treadwell
May 7, 1939 - December 14, 2023
Passed away peacefully at Waterloo Hospice surrounded by the love of family on December 14, 2023 at the age of 84.
Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. Brilliant artist and mother of three who worked in the beauty and clothing industry for many years in Toronto and the surrounding area. Some of her best artwork was displayed on a barn in rural Ontario first as a life-sized Holstein and then as a pure-bred horse. Eleanor loved playing cards and was an excellent euchre and crib player. She loved animals and was never without a dog and cats in her home and they gave her much comfort, especially later in life. Her favorite dog was Bismark and she spoke fondly of “Bis” throughout her life.
Eleanor always enjoyed life to the fullest and took up camping after retirement and travelled to many Ontario camping areas with her friend Nancy and sometimes with her oldest granddaughter Ayla in tow.
Eleanor is also remembered as an excellent slalom water skier at the family cottage in Bobcaygeon with her oldest son Guy watching with pride and admiration from the back of the boat.
In later years, Eleanor was cared for in her home by her loving son Jack and Lori and also by her daughter-in-law Shannon.
Loving mother of Guy (Shannon), Jack (or Chip) and Becky (or Rebecca) Treadwell and Lori Nolan and amazing aunt to Lisa, Jodi and Nancy Elliott, Eleanor also fostered many other people throughout her life and was so very generous with her time and her home to many.
She is the last remaining member of the “secret six”, a very special group of friends that were so dear to her heart, and they will be reunited at last.
Cherished grandmother of Ayla, Jillian, Zenen, Tyler Asher, Morgan and Hayden and great grandmother to Azaray, Mannix, Kendall and Ezra.
Predeceased by her parents Murray and Margaret Turnbull and her older sister Elizabeth Elliott.
In keeping with Eleanor’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a private family Celebration of Life to be held a later date. Also, to honour Eleanor’s wishes her ashes will be lovingly spread by her children in some of the many places that she cherished during her time on this planet.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grand River Hospital Foundation or your favourite charity as expressions of sympathy.
