Jo-Anne Angela McIntosh Gonsalves

1948 - 2024

It is with great sorrow and sadness that we share with you the loss of our beloved mother Jo-Anne Angela McIntosh Gonsalves. On April 8th, 2024, she passed away peacefully at the age of 75 surrounded by her loving family in Kitchener, ON, Canada. It would be wrong to say that she lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. Her resilience and perseverance were truly a wonder.

Jo-Anne was born on November 5th, 1948, in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and immigrated to Canada where she made a home to raise her family.

She is survived by her three loving sons, Sean McIntosh, Shayne McIntosh and Stephen McIntosh along with her seven grandchildren, Shayne Jr. Hyderkhan-McIntosh, Paige Dalson, Marcus McIntosh, Izabella Roberts, Liam Roberts, Xavier Roberts, River McIntosh and great grandchild, Kysen Daley-McIntosh.

Jo-Anne was happy to be the central figure in her children's lives; her greatest love was her family. She enjoyed cooking for them and sending them home with bags of groceries after each visit. She was also a loving grandmother/great-grandmother, always trying to snap the perfect picture to send to her family and friends for bragging purposes.

If you knew her then you know she loved to chat on the phone. Her passion was taking care of plants and flowers. She had a green thumb for them and adored being surrounded by their beauty which reminded her of being back home.

In Saint Vincent she is survived by her four younger siblings Lennox, Hazel-Anne, Wade and Jasmine. She was predeceased by her parents Frederick Adolphus Gonsalves MBE, a local pioneer in the wine-making business and his wife Ena Gonsalves (De Freitas). She loved them all very much.

While Jo-Anne’s family grieves her loss, they are choosing to remember her in a way that honours her wishes. A small intimate gathering to celebrate her life and all the beautiful memories over the past 75 years. The final resting place for Jo-Anne’s ashes will be decided at a future date.

The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the nurses, caregivers and physicians at Grand River Hospital & the Freeport Campus who cared for Jo-Anne over the past year and a half. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to Grand River Hospital so they can continue to care for those in need.

If you would like to leave a message of condolence for the family, please visit www.tricitycremations.com or call 519.772.1237. You may also visit jo-Anne’s obituary notice on Facebook.

We appreciate all the love and support over the past year and a half, thank you.

Rest in peace dearest Jo-Anne.
