Terence William Edward Moran
June 16, 1946 - July 21, 2023.
Terry, as he was called by family and friends, was born in Galt, Ontario. His parents were Lloyd and Isabel Moran of Galt. He moved with his family to Riverside, California, when he was 17 and later to Las Vegas, Nevada. Terry moved back to Cambridge, Ontario, Canada after his wife’s retirement. During his life in the United States, Terry worked in various occupations. He retired in Las Vegas, due to health reasons, as a refrigeration/air-conditioning technician. He had previously worked as a truck driver, taxi driver, computer programmer, and had owned several plumbing businesses in southern California. He is survived by wife Carole.
Terry was of high intelligence and belonged to American Mensa and Mensa Canada. He was a member of the Southern Nevada Mensa chapter in the United States and to the Southwestern Ontario Mensa chapter in Canada. He was widely read and had varied interests including anthropology, archaeology, various other sciences, politics and current events, global warming, travel, photography, sailing and canoeing. He was adept at mathematics and finance, auto mechanics, storytelling, and research. He wrote short stories and poems, built a working model of an ancient Sumerian sailboat, studied various natural phenomena, and led expeditions to Death Valley, California. He made a short film describing the noted sliding stones of Racetrack Playa in Death Valley. He played the piano and composed his own music. Terry also belonged to the Ontario Archaeology Society, Toronto and Hamilton chapters at various times, and the Ancient Mariners Canoe Club of Cambridge. There was little that did not capture his attention or curiosity, and he was accomplished at all things he tried.
Terry was a congenial person and made friends easily. He influenced many people during his lifetime and was known for his good humor, easy conversation on many subjects, and friendliness toward all. He loved social events and gathered with people as often as possible. His wife’s extended family and his many friends grieve at his loss.
