Walter Edward Goebel
On January 25, 2024, WALTER EDWARD GOEBEL, in his 86th year. Survived by Elizabeth, his wife of 60 years; daughters Sharon (Chris, deceased) and Kim (Charlie), sister, brother, several sisters/brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents and two brothers.
At the age of 16, Walter joined the army apprentice program and spent the next 22 years in the military. On the occasion of the one hundredth anniversary of the Confederation of Canada, Walter was awarded the Centennial Medal in recognition of valuable service to the nation. He was one of only 30,000 Canadians to receive such a prestigious award. He was part of the No 9 Royal Canadian Army Cadets in London for 15 years. Captain Goebel retired in 1977.
As a civilian, Walter worked at Canadian Admiral Corporation, Sifton Properties and finally with the Canadian Corp of Commissionaires.
Walter’s first passion was family, but also loved the great outdoors, especially fly fishing.
Memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated by the family.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service to be held for family and friends on Saturday, February 10th, 2024 at 11AM. Forest Lawn Funeral Chapel, 2001 Dundas St, London, ON N5V 1P6.
