Wayne Thomas Skuce
1935- 2025
Passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Waterloo Region Hospice in Waterloo on Saturday March 8, 2025 at the age of 89.
Wayne was born and raised in Northern Ontario, growing up in Barry's Bay with his brother and parents. As a young man he was an avid outdoorsman enjoying camping, fishing, hunting and archery. He also had a vast variety of jobs including working at a lumber yard, post office, and the forestry service fighting fires in Algonquin Park and working at Atomic Energy in Chalk River.
Later when he moved to Kitchener in 1964 he spent over 30 years at the Budd Automotive Plant where he started in the press shop and took training courses working his way up to Quality Control where he spent most of his years there. He was a hard and dedicated worker at whatever he chose to do.
He had a sharp mind and an endless curiosity and passion for science, nature and astronomy. He was a vivacious reader of both fiction and nonfiction, constantly reading and watching documentaries, always eager to learn something new.
He also had a creative side, being a talented singer and artist and loved photography. As a devoted family man, he took great pleasure in being the family archivist, continually there to chronicle events and occasions and accumulated an impressive collection over the years of slides, photographs , video, and later, digital media which are cherished by his family.
He loved living a quiet simple life with his family at the heart of it and was a patient, understanding father and wonderful role model to his children and grandchildren. He will forever be known as a kind and selfless man who always put the needs of others ahead of his own. He is beloved and held dear by all that had the pleasure to know him.
