Dane Carl Burton
1950 - 2024
Passed away peacefully with his family at his side at Freeport Palliative Care, Kitchener, on September 17 at the age of 73.
Dane was a carpenter, a draftsman, a writer and a cowboy; a committed rebel who never took the easy route.
He was born in Orillia and lived in Peterborough before finally relocating to Waterloo, Ontario. There he found great satisfaction as a professor of carpentry at Conestoga College. Dane was particularly proud of the curriculum he developed on the history of architecture in Ontario and green building techniques. His ability to relate complex mathematical concepts to students in practical terms was praised by colleagues.
Beloved husband and best friend of Maureen Burton (nee Hammell). Together, they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on December 6, 2024.
Loving father of Wyatt (partner Laura Messer, co-parent Jessica Finley), Charlotte (Taylor Stock), and Elliott Burton.
Grandfather of Edith and Alexis Burton.
Baby brother of Carol Anne Espley (Ted); special brother-in-law to Margaret Hammell and uncle to Christian and Carl Murphy.
Predeceased by Carl and Laurie Burton.
The family would like to thank the Grand River Hospital Cancer Clinic, Waterloo Hospice, Home and Community Care Support Services, and the GRH Freeport Palliative Care Team. Their support has been vital during this difficult time.
Cremation will take place. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, play some John Prine, and play it loud.
