David Heinemann Marcus

On Wednesday, August 9th, 2023, David Heinemann Marcus sang his final song, passing away peacefully in Waterloo, Ontario.

David was born on June 13, 1971, near Killaloe, Ontario to Richard and Anne Marcus (née Heinemann), who named him Sing at birth. Though changing his name in late childhood, Dave was ever a lover of music and from an early age had a gift for composing lyrics and melody. He never missed an opportunity to make music with others and did so on guitar, piano and a great variety of other instruments. An honours English major, David was known to wield words masterfully, at times for poignant description, other times, for the simple sake of good humour. Those who knew Dave throughout his life remember him for his wit, charm, and desire to spread joy to those around him. He was a passionate golfer and was especially passionate and playful with his golf wardrobe.

Along with his parents, Dave leaves behind his son Noah, his love, Susan, his brothers Jason, Damon, Joel, Benjamin, and sister Joy, their spouses and children. He is greatly missed by many loving and faithful friends.

Dave's final days were spent in the beautiful Hospice Waterloo Region facility, where the extraordinary care there afforded him the ability to end his life in peace and with dignity, surrounded by family and friends.

A memorial to celebrate David's life will take place at 11am on September 16, 2023, at the Victoria Park Pavilion in Kitchener, Ontario. Donations in his honour can be made to Hospice Waterloo Region.
