Deborah A. (Bowen) Sandilands

January 30, 1950 -January 19, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of Deborah Sandilands. Deb passed away peacefully at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Friday, January 19 surrounded by friends and family. She approached her two year cancer journey with amazing courage, strength and determination, almost reaching her goal of her 74th birthday.

Deb is the beloved friend of many who knew her through her 73 years. She approached life with passion and applied that passion in her teaching career, her many years of organizing the Cambridge Seniors Golf and her involvement in The Grand Valley Woodcarvers, where she won many accolades for her bird carvings. She put her love of reading and writing into many poems and songs throughout the years and was a wonderful storyteller and joke teller. She made it her mission to make people laugh.

Deb was fortunate to have the care of excellent staff at the Grand River Hospital Cancer Centre and the Cambridge Hospital during her treatments to fight lung cancer.

Her wish to stay at home as long as possible was only achieved with the care and compassion of friends, her PSWs (especially Sherry and Sarah), home care nurses and doctors. Thank you.

Deb will always live in our hearts and never really be gone. She will keep us smiling.

Cremation has taken place. There will be an open house celebration of life to follow in the spring at Grand Valley Golf Course, Cambridge, from 2:30 – 5:00pm on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

Messages and condolences may be left at www.tricitycremations.com. Please visit Deb’s obituary notice on Facebook.
