Donald Grant Heimpel
Passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at the age of 75.
Beloved husband and best friend of Suzan Heimpel (nee Carey) for over 52 years. Loving and proud father of Ryan Carey (Shelley), Heather Heimpel (Craig Morrissey), Kari Cilibanov (Lou) and Tyler Heimpel (Tyson). Cherished Papa of Logan, Avery, Hunter, Zoe, Sayer, Lily, Lexi, Nash, Walker, Siera and Brady.
Dear brother of Audrey Beilstein (Jim), Harold and Ray Heimpel and the late Ross Heimpel (Susan). Predeceased by his parents, Allen (Jack) and Elfrieda Heimpel.
Don was born and raised in Kitchener, where he completed his studies at the University of Waterloo and received his CMA accreditation in 1973. He worked at Electrohome in Finance for 23 years before branching off to private consulting for a number of local businesses including the YMCA, St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waterloo, and Luther Manor. He settled down in Mannheim and started his family with his wife Suzan in 1972, raising their active children. Their passion for all things sports led Don to his years as President of Kitchener Minor Soccer, where he was instrumental in building the indoor soccer facility at Budd Park. He was a founding member of the Mannheim Optimist Club. Being community-minded, Don ventured into local politics by serving as a member of the Wilmot Township Council from 1996-2000. Don was an avid NASCAR fan, travelling with friends and family to races across the US to cheer on his Fords, driving a racecar himself for his 60th birthday. In his later years he enjoyed many rounds of golf, a hobby he could share with his family and friends.
He will be sadly missed by many, especially Suzan’s family.
Special thanks to the staff at ParaMed and Dr. Karen Cameron for their support in Don’s last week at home.
Cremation has taken place. A drop-in Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 from 5-8 p.m. at the Rebel Creek Golf Club, 1517 Snyder’s Rd. E. Petersburg for all who knew Don to come and share memories.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grand River Cancer Centre as expressions of sympathy.
