Helen "Eileen" Coulson (née Magennis)
1943 – 2024
With very heavy hearts, we announce Helen “Eileen” Coulson, left us on December 11, 2024, at St. Mary’s General Hospital in Kitchener, Ontario. She was a young 81 years old.
Born in Belfast, Ireland, to Ellen “Murdygin” and Henry “Harry” Magennis, Eileen was the youngest sibling to Ena, Isobel and Noel all of whom have predeceased her.
Eileen has left behind Lewis, her husband of 61 years. She also leaves behind daughters Marilyn “Marzi” (Sandy), Elaine, and Julie (Herb); grandchildren Will (Kaylin), Sean (the favourite), Rachel, Lewis, and Malachy; Her dear sister-in-law Lynn (Nick) Figures and loads of loved nieces and nephews in England and Ireland. She also will be missed by her great-grand puppies Amy, Lola, Joseph, and Maggie, all her “wee beasties.”
In her life she had many, many good friends but her closest friend and confidant was Joanie (Kent) Hotson. She loved the endless hours spent talking about everything under the sun. Joanie was always a very good friend to our mother and our family knows she will feel this loss as much as we will.
Eileen lit up every room and inspired everyone she met, having overcome so much adversity in her life, she leaves a legacy of love and laughter. To say she was incredibly loved is an understatement. She was witty, intelligent, sharp as a whip and very resilient. Her daughters and grandkids were always her first concern and Lewis, her husband a close second.
We were able to be with our mum until her final breath. We are so thankful for the time we had at St. Mary’s to say goodbye to her. The staff on the 7th floor went over and above in taking care of her and making space for us to be together as a family. The care was exceptional and although we know it took a whole team to make it happen, we would like to especially thank Naz, Rabina, Christine and Josh. Dr’s. Harlick and Campbell also were a credit to their profession. Our hearts are full of love and thanks. St. Mary’s has always looked after us. My mother also always appreciated her GP Dr. Atia. So many thanks to these wonderful, hardworking professionals.
Our mum loved our family dogs so, if you would like to, please make a donation in her name to the KW Humane Society in lieu of flowers.
Details for a Life Celebration in February to follow.
Rest in peace, Mum. Loved and never forgotten.
