James William Tasker
It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Jim at Grand River Hospital on Friday, April 7, 2023 at the age of 55 years.
Jim was a calm and gentle man, and a steady presence to those around him. He loved cars, boats, fantasy novels, sci-fi films, history and architecture. He was curious in nature, and enjoyed absorbing information about the world around him. He enjoyed travelling whenever he could, but preferred the experience of a road trip over the convenience of a plane ride. He was an avid cigar smoker in his later years.
Born on May 1, 1967 in Windsor, Ontario to parents Ryall Tasker and Judith Ann Tasker (née Shpak). He was predeceased by his mother, Judith, early on in life, but was blessed to know Diane Vancoughnett as his mom for the remainder of his life.
Jim lived with his grandparents in Florida for some of his early childhood, and often spoke very fondly of his memories there. He would often mention the fresh oranges, and weekly barber visits with his grandpa.
His stories of his childhood in Windsor will be missed, but carried on by his younger siblings; Lisa Brachok (Mike), Jo-Ellen Gilham (Jay), and Chris Tasker (Sandie).
As a young man, he moved to Toronto and the surrounding area, where he met his best friend of over 35 years, Rob Street. He considered the Street family an extension of his own, and was always happy to see Rob, Cindy and James.
After moving to Kitchener in his early 20’s, he was introduced to Kelly, or Kel (as he called her), by their lifelong friend, Wanda Honsberger. Jim and Kelly spent 35 years of their lives by each others side, with 31 of those years being celebrated in marriage.
He was predeceased by his father in law, Fred Dixon, and was a cherished son in law by both Fred and Elenor Dixon. He was a loving, fun brother in law to Patrick (Shannon), Elenor (Ralph), and Heather (Brian).
Jim and Kelly had two children together, Crystal and Judith (Judy). In 2017, their son-in-law, Treye Seabrook-Fields, joined the family.
In 2018 and 2019, they became grandparents to Athena and Emrys. His grandchildren brought him great pride and joy, and he was always willing to play along with a silly game, and offer them a smile, or a snack.
He was known as “Uncle Jim” to many; Amber, Ashley, Dillon, Zach, Sarah, Matthew, Cody, Rechelle, Joshua, Alanah, Nathan, Ben, Tom, Nick, Kendyll, Kelsey, and many more.
He is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and neighbours, and will be missed deeply by each of them.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life OR private family gathering will be held at a later date.
