Janet Thomson Johnston (nee Cornwall)

Nov. 3 1946 – Apr. 21st 2024

Janet was being cared for by staff, her daughter, son-in-law and dear friend Gloria at Freeport Palliative Care Unit in Kitchener when she transitioned on Sunday April 21, 2024 at the age of 77 years.

Janet was born November 3rd, 1946 in Rosewell Scotland at Newbiggings Farm Cottages, Daughter of a Dairy Man.  Janet with her family moved to Canada on March 23, 1949.  Janet had fond memories of spending hours in the orchard on the family farm with her siblings, climbing and swinging and eating fruit off the trees till her mother would call them in with the dinner bell, and they would be too full for supper! In Janet’s younger years, while in school, she had a flair for the arts and painting in water colour, winning many ribbons and awards. While in Sault Ste. Marie, Janet was a Nurses Aid and in 1979 she gave birth to her beloved Bubba (just one of her daughter’s many nicknames). In 2013, Janet became a proud Canadian Citizen and retired from Elmira Poultry. Upon retiring she volunteered at Chartwell nursing home in Elmira.

She loved the animals she saw on her walks and feeling the sunshine on her face. She enjoyed movies, especially westerns, action flicks as well as watching the Three Stooges. She had a passion for all kinds of music, especially Neil Young; she was a bookworm, and spent some time volunteering at the Elmira library. Janet was a spiritual person and held her faith close to her heart.

Janet is survived by her only daughter; Shelby Cornwall (Brad Golding) of Waterloo, and by her siblings Georgina Walker, Jean Lannin, and David Cornwall. She is predeceased by her Father W. Alexander Cornwall, her Mother Sarah Douglas Cornwall (nee: Gray), her sister Sandra Young and her brother Alex Cornwall.

She will be fondly remembered by relatives, friends, neighbours and co-workers.

Cremation will take place. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 on Friday May 10, 2024 at the Alma Bible Church, 59 Peel St. E. ( County Rd 17) Alma, Ontario. There will be a reception to follow in the church fellowship hall. The Family encourages those attending the celebration of life  to honour Janet by wearing bright colours.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alma Bible Church or the Small Church Connections as expressions of sympathy, and details will be available at the church on the day of the service.

Messages and condolences may be left for the family at www.tricitycremations.com or 519.772.1237. Please visit Janet’s obituary notice on Facebook.
