June 20th, 1948 - April 1st, 2023
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of John Burnet Trothen of Cambridge (Hespeler), Ontario, on Saturday, April 1st, 2023. Surrounded by family, he passed peacefully in his home following a courageous fight against colon cancer.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 49 years, Beverley (Solomchuk): children Jonathan (La Salle, On) and Michelle (Hespeler, On); grandchildren: Victoria Connor, Kate Trothen and Cole Trothen. Brother Robert (Harriet) Kitchener, Sister-in-laws Patricia Solomchuk (Brian Cross) Kitchener, Kimberley Thibert (Gerrard) Windsor and affectionately remembered by his nephews (4) and niece, also a great-uncle to great-nieces (5) and great-nephews (2). He will be dearly missed by his ‘Best Bud’ Michael Miller (Sharon) Ottawa, Frank Dunmore (Sandra) Hespeler, and fellow Legion Comrades with whom he loved dearly and shared many fond memories.
He was predeceased by his twin brother at birth, William Trothen and parents Ruth (Burnet) and Jack Trothen. Father-in-law Jack Solomchuk and Mother-in-law Grace Solomchuk (Cooke).
John was a sentimental man who often shared stories of his childhood in Windsor, Stratford and Hanover, Ontario. He was often the life of the party, a social convenor and above all else a family man. He took pride in his family, the place he called home, Hespeler, and the great friendships he found while participating in committees such as the Great Hespeler Reunion, 1998 Hespeler Farmers Market, Hespeler Legion Social Committee and Happy Cookers of Friday Night Dinner. John led a life rich with community and will be remembered as ‘Lumpy’, player 77 of the Hanover Trojans football team, for his Christmas spirit at the Waterloo Rod and Gun Club and a full house for ‘Big Johns’ Annual Pigtail Dinners. John enjoyed a round of golf, game of snooker or a stroll through a local farmers market. While at home his love of reading, gardening and Coronation Street filled his heart with joy.
To celebrate the life of John, please join his family for a Legion service on Sunday, May 14th, 1-4pm at The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 272 located at: 26 Schofield St, Cambridge, ON N3C 1Y3
