Judith Ann Wallwork (Barrett)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Judith Ann Wallwork (Barrett) on the 16th of February 2025 at Nithview LTC in New Hamburg.

Judith was born December 1940 in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England. She leaves behind her husband of 52 years, David, and her three daughters, Christine (Greg), Julie, and Susan (Pierre). Also surviving are five grandchildren, Brooklynn, Cooper, Ethan, Caiden, and Ewan, and her sister, Marilyn Norton and nephews and nieces in the UK.

Judith immigrated to Canada in 1964. She worked as a lab technician for a number of years, before deciding on a career in teaching, and enrolled in teachers’ college in Toronto. She taught elementary school (primarily grades 7 & 8) in Oakville, Guelph, and Waterloo Region. She also volunteered extensively with St. John Ambulance.

Judith married David in 1972. Together they bought a rural property with a stone farm house near Roseville, set about extensive renovations, gardening, and raising three daughters. She did supply teaching for the Waterloo Board, was on the Altar Guild at St. John’s and leadership roles with Brownies and Girl Guides. She survived breast cancer, a number of broken bones, and numerous adventures at the farm, the Woodlot, and on travels.

The Alzheimer Society will tell you there is no pattern to dementia and that was borne out by Judith’s journey through it. She did enjoy participation for over a year in the Sunnyside CAP program in Kitchener. It was necessary for her to move into long term care in May of last year. Her claim to fame there was her smile, which was commented on by residents, volunteers, and staff alike.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service for Judith will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at St. John’s Anglican Church in Cambridge (Preston) at 11am, followed by a reception. Donations in Judith’s memory may be made to the Sunnyside CAP program or a charity of your choice.

Messages and condolences may be left for the family at www.tricitycremations.com or 519.772.1237.  Please visit Judith’s obituary notice on Facebook.
