Laura Bolton-Watson
Suddenly, on May 28, Laura passed away at home. She is deeply missed by her sons Wayne, Stephen (Shawna), Mark (Jillian), Christopher (Heather), and her grandchildren Amy, Garret, Aidan, Kaia, Alex, Eric, and Kate. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold, her mother, Sylvia, her father, Hugh, and her dear brother, Ronald. Laura is survived by her brother Robert. Laura was born in Toronto in 1945 and was a Registered Nurse graduate of the school of nursing. Her career in nursing began working in various hospitals ‘learning the ropes’ and evolved as she worked with the VON, Comcare, Golden Years Nursing Home, Cambridge Memorial Hospital and then moved into a case management role with Crawford & Company. Like her mother Sylvia, she also volunteered at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
Laura loved her family. She and Harold would frequently be seen at their grandchildren’s ringette, hockey, and baseball games in addition to attending swimming lessons, concerts, dance, and ballet shows. She loved her grandchildren and would want to see them as much as possible.
Laura loved hosting and was famous for cooking her ‘firehall stew,’ chili and prime rib dinners. She had a kind heart, loved to tell jokes, and share funny stories from the past. As her kids grew up, she always made their friends feel welcome and treated and respected them as adults. She loved listening and dancing to music from the 50’s, especially on Saturday nights listening to ‘Dazlin’ Don Daynard on CHFI.
She loved the opportunity she had to enjoy cottage life in Bala, Muskoka with her family and friends. Decades of cottage life created many traditions and rituals. Mom loved boat cruises on lake Muskoka, to declaring ‘the sun’s over the yardarm,’ to skinny dipping off the dock to engaging in a fun game of cards or a boardgame as the day closed out.
Be sure to share a laugh and raise a glass with a loved one in celebration of Laura and her journey home to be reunited with her love, Harold, where she will have a rye and coke with a slice of lemon and he will have his Caesar, and they can dance and be together again.
Special thanks to Dr. Pandey, Dr. Ahmad, and most recently Angela, Tara, Jenna, Mellisa, and all her support workers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation and Canadian Cancer Society. Cremation has taken place, and a special Celebration of Life will be arranged in the future.
