Richard Douglas Berkeley
1941 -2024
Passed away peacefully at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener on Friday October 25, 2024 in his 83rd year.
Born in Paris Ontario, and raised on a farm in Jerseyville. He attended Wentworth County Public School in Ancaster, then Westdale Secondary School in Hamilton. Richard worked at Massey-Ferguson in Brantford until the plant closure. Then worked for B.F Goodrich (Uniroyal Goodrich) in Kitchener, until retiring in 2002, after 25 years of service.
Richard had many interests throughout his life, including: five-pin bowling, coaching t-ball and baseball, playing and coaching lawn bowls, coaching shuffleboard, watching curling and baseball, taking drives, and travelling. He was also a member of the Lions Club and the Royal Canadian Legion.
A proud moment for Richard was when helped with establishing a Lawn Bowling program for the blind and visually impaired in St. John’s Newfoundland.
Beloved husband and best friend of Vivian (nee Drinkwater) who were married for over 50 years.
Loving father of Laura Lee Shone of Newfoundland and Michael (girlfriend Emily Allard) of Kitchener.
Cherished grandfather of Samantha Shone also of Newfoundland.
Dear brother of William (Margaret) Berkeley of Brantford.
He was predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Georgina (nee Hayward) Berkeley and by one brother Vernon Berkeley.
Cremation will take place. A private family gathering will be held at later date.
Donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society as expressions of sympathy.
