Richard “WILLIBALD” Feicht
1932-2024
Passed away September 22, 2024 in his 92nd year on the fall equinox. Richard “Opa” came to Canada from Germany in 1953 with the promise of building a new life. Here he found his forever love Erna “Omi” who had just moved from Austria. They married in 1958 and had three children; Linda (Peter), Rick (Laura), Ray (Allyson).
Richard worked at Budd automotive most of his life, and also was self employed. He made a name for himself as a professional photographer, capturing nature, local weddings and sport team photos.
He worked very hard to provide for his family. However, Richard‘s true passion was organic gardening. Richard was a pioneer who brought the old simple ways of life from his homeland to his family in Ayr. Nothing brought him greater joy than sharing with his children and grandchildren the reward of gardening. He was extremely proud that they were able to enjoy an abundance of healthy vegetables and fruit all year round. Opa continued to educate and develop their interest in history, geography, geology, birding, and organic gardening. They in turn learned an appreciation and respect for mother nature. Richard read thousands of pages on how to heal with nature as natural was always the best medicine. This passion was almost as great as his love of European soccer, having watched his favourite beloved Bayern Munich team play for decades.
Richard was smart, strong yet gentle, generous and kind. He led by example to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was above all else, a teacher.
His family will miss his deep discussions on politics, his joy of chess, his mastery of stacking firewood, his love of chips and sprouts, and his sweet tooth which he never, ever admitted to having. Richard’s love for his family was unconditional, genuine and true. Richard and Erna built a legacy of family together and now they are reunited once again. We are grateful for their love and will miss them dearly.
