Robert ”Bob” Bell

1935 - 2024

Robert (Bob) Bell passed away peacefully at Trinity Village Care Centre, Kitchener, Ontario, on November 8, 2024, in his 90th year.

Beloved husband, best friend and dance partner of Barbara (nee Jackson) for over 68 years. Caring father of Brenda Luckhardt (Blaine), Susan Quarry (Alan) and David Bell (Lynne).  Cherished grandfather of Sarah Luckhardt (Anders), Matthew Luckhardt (Becky), Caitlin Quarry, Laura Bailey (William), Robert Quarry (Kaylee), Ashley Bell (Myles), and Meagan Bell (Zach). Proud great-grandfather of Clayton, Carter, Jack, Clara, Poppy and Oliver and loving and supportive brother of Agnes Miller.

Predeceased by his parents, David and Agnes (nee Vickers) Bell.

Born in East York and apprenticed as a typographer and worked at numerous newspapers including The Globe and Mail, Cleveland Plain Dealer, The St. Catharines Standard and the Cobourg Daily Star. He also worked for Peninsula Press.

A devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle and loyal friend, Bob lived a life full of compassion, commitment, humility and selflessness. He was the heart of his family, always putting the needs of others before his own and offering unwavering support to those he loved.

From an early age, Bob was drawn to helping others and this sense of duty never wavered. Donating blood over 150 times, working with the Niagara and Northumberland Distress lines and working as a Union Representative for the International Typographical Union are just a few examples of the way Bob improved many lives.

Since childhood, Bob had a love for dogs and always had biscuits in his pocket ready to give to many neighbourhood dogs over the years.

Bob was a passionate and active individual, who lived life with enthusiasm and joy, finding deep satisfaction in staying physically active and sharing a love of sports with others. Whether on the greens or on the court, Bob was known for his competitive spirit and dedication to the activities that brought him so much happiness such as golf, tennis, cross country skiing, lawn bowling and gardening.

As a devoted husband Bob valued spending time with Barb participating in the community of the Unitarian Church, hosting family gatherings, and spending time together with their Gourmet Club and playing cards. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether it was playing a round of mini golf, ping pong or cracking jokes with his well-known sense of humour, he created lasting memories that will be treasured for generations.

Bob’s family is eternally thankful for the kind, compassionate, and loving care he and they received from the team at Trinity Village Care Centre.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 1:30pm with a reception to follow at The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 530, 316 Marsland Drive, Waterloo, ON N2J 3Z1.  Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Food Bank of Waterloo Region or the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington.
