Robert Leverette
1936-2023
In loving memory of Robert born August 4, 1936 – passed October 19, 2023. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Leverette, a beloved father, brother and friend. Robert was the first born child of Harold B. Leverette (1965) and Mabel O. Cuthbert (1996).
Robert’s life was a tapestry woven with vibrant threads of adventure, love, and resilience. Born in Ottawa Ontario, Canada in 1936. Robert lived a life rich in experiences and lasting memories. He was a devoted father to three children, Mark, Scott and Brooke, who each pursued their unique paths in life. Mark a seasoned CPA, inherited his father’s dedication to excellence. Scott, a successful realtor, carried forward Robert’s passion for real estate. Brooke, a pilates and yoga instructor in Santa Barbara, inherited his spirit of health and vitality.
Robert was not only a loving father but also a brother to twins, David and Ian, born eleven years after him. In his later years, he found solace and companionship in his brother David, a well respected Shriner in their community of Waterloo.
Robert’s early years were coloured by exploration and discovery. He worked in the picturesque town of Banff, where he savoured the finer things in life. His thirst for knowledge led him to the Canadian Air Force and the University of Western Ontario, where he pursued a Master’s in Business Degree. His career as an accountant with Del Monte Foods eventually took him to San Francisco, where he began a new chapter in his life. Robert was a man of adventure and wanderlust. He embarked on a Presidents’ Line Cruise ship sailing to Hawaii in the early 1960’s, igniting his lifelong love for travel. It was during one of these adventures that he met Marlene, at a dinner party in London, England. Their love story transcended borders and bureaucracy even involving letters to Presidents Kennedy and Johnson to secure the proper Visa permissions; Marlene passed away in 2014.
Robert deeply loved the arts and was especially enamored with musical theatre. From Broadway to the West End, he took in all the shows and immersed himself in the theatre world. Robert eschewed labels and was able to blend with the crowd wherever he was. He was a man of his time and place in London in the swinging 60’s and San Francisco in the 70’s. Many may remember him as reserved but his fashion sense through the years and keen eye for design tell a more fabulous story.
An entrepreneur at heart, Robert founded various business throughout his life, with Nettle Creek Shop, a bedding and home furnishing store, being among the most successful. He also focused on real estate, as an owner and an agent in Vallejo, California. In his later years, Robert returned to his roots in Toronto, Ontario to be closer to his cherished brother David and family. Known for his warm smile and relaxed laughter, Robert was a kind hearted soul who touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family would like to thank the staff and PSW’s of Columbia Forest LTC for the warm caring attention he received while in their care especially, Jen, Jeanne, Jess, KC, Iris, Jeet , Mia, Colleen, Laura, Kathryn, Courtney, Dia, Desta, Sevda, Jini, Shalagh and Christine.
