Robert Norman Thomas

1937 – 2024

Robert (Bob) Thomas passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, on Monday, December 16, 2024, at the age of 87.  He was the beloved husband of his best friend, Marilyn (née Davenport), who passed away in 2017, the dedicated and loving father of Loron (John) Pellowe, Jason (Beth) Thomas, Arlen (Eileen) Thomas (d. 2015), and Alynn (Art) Baker, the enthusiastic and entertaining grandfather of several grandchildren residing in Canada and the US, and a proud “GGBob” to a growing number of great grandchildren.

Bob was born in Timmins, Ontario, and grew up in North Bay, Ontario, with his sister Joyce (d. 2019), and brother, Jake.  He graduated from Southwestern Bible College in Waxahachie, Texas in 1958, and married Marilyn later in the same year. They lived in North Bay, Calgary and Oshawa until 1983 when they embarked on the adventure of relocating to Florida, where they enjoyed many sunny days until Marilyn’s passing.  Bob then retired (at age 80) from his lifelong career in life and health insurance and moved to Waterloo, Ontario to live with his eldest daughter (Loron) and her family.

Bob and Marilyn shared a love of bluegrass music, going on spontaneous adventures, and most of all, a deep devotion to their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Bob was a gentle, kind, and engaging man who played the guitar and five-string banjo, loved trains, and enjoyed games and jigsaw puzzles.  He was always very involved in music, his family and his church, even as he aged. In his final days, when he had no strength left to stand, he lay in his hospital bed softly singing, “This is my story, this is my song:  Praising my Savior all the day long.”  He faithfully ran his race in anticipation of the day he would hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held Sunday, January 26th, 2:00 pm, at Waterloo Pentecostal Assembly, 395 King St N in Waterloo.  All who knew Bob are welcome to join us as we celebrate his life and his home-going, with music, memories, and ice cream (his favorite treat).  Bob would approve!

Messages and condolences may be left for the family at www.tricitycremations.com or 519.772.1237. Please visit Bob’s obituary notice on Facebook.
