Russell Knight Johnson

Feb. 22, 1933- Jan. 2, 2024

Russell left this world to join his beloved wife, his “Angel on Earth” Joan, on January 2, 2024 in his 91st year.  Russ was a devoted husband to Joan for 57 years and loving father to Ken (Wendy), Martin (Kerri), and Michelle (Oliver), grandfather to 12, great grandfather to 10 and Great-Great Grandfather to 5.

Russ was born in Brantford, the son of Angus Johnson and Jane Rennie.  He was the 3rd child in a family of 5. He is predeceased by brothers Angus (Leila d.), Andrew (Verna d.) and sister Barbara (Robert d.), his first wife Rose (nee Taylor), daughter in law Beverly and his grandson Jeffrey.  He is survived by his brother Donald (Judy) and many nieces and nephews.

Russell was a lifelong resident of Brant County and worked at Norton Sandpaper Co. for 38 years, as well as Johnson Tree Service and Johnson and Sons Trucking.  He lived by the adage Work Hard, Play Hard so he had many “side hustles” and interests over the years. He loved to hunt, fish, dance, motorcycle, travel, and scuba dive…anything that kept him in motion.

Russ liked nothing better than to have a laugh over an (embellished) story, while spending time with friends and family.  He loved to tease. The more he liked you, the more he teased you. And he was delighted when you handed it right back.

Russell lived to help people in whatever way he could: cut a tree, fix your car, repair a chair, drop off gravel. He may have appeared gruff to some, but was actually sentimental and caring once you knew him.

A special Thank you to several people who supported him in his dream of remaining in his own home until his passing: Darlene Frenette, Shelley Walters and Dr. Mohan Raja. We could not have managed without their support.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Smokey Hollow Estates on Saturday Feb. 17, 2024 at 1 pm. with a luncheon to follow.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to The Huntington’s Society of Canada.

Kindly RSVP to luncheon 226-750-8483 or to FB- Martin Paul or Michelle Johnson Solaro.

Messages and condolences may be left at www.tricitycremations.com. Please visit Russell’s obituary notice on Facebook.
