Tommy Silveira Rodrigues

1960-2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Tom Rodrigues on Monday, February 19, 2024, at the age of 63. He lost his battle to cancer.

Born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. Tom stood 6 ft 7 inches and was always a force to be reckoned with. He was the epitome of the "cool tall guy" that everyone looked up to, both figuratively and literally. He would lift a group of his cousins on his arms like a clothesline. He had all the girls swooning over him throughout his entire life. He was a talented and tough athlete on the ice and on the field. Tom was known for his dedication to his loved ones. He had an unwavering commitment to his family which meant “Don’t mess with my family or you’ll have me to deal with.” He cherished spending time with loved ones, whether it was traveling to warm destinations, attending NHL games (Vancouver Canucks was his favorite team), or simply gathering with friends and family. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandson, Jonathan, who meant the world to him.

Tom leaves behind his two beautiful daughters Chanelle & Olivia and his precious grandson Jonathan.  He was predeceased by his mother Zulmira da Conceicao Medeiros and fathers Antonio Garcia Rodrigues (birth father), Justino Medeiros. Tom is survived by sisters Maria and Myra as well as his two nephews, aunts, uncles, numerous cousins, and many great friends.

Having moved from British Columbia to Ontario to be closer to his grandson, Jonathan, Tom cherished every moment spent with him, whether it was cheering on his hockey games or participating in other sports and events. Tom's presence in Jonathan's life was a constant source of love and support.

Tom will be fondly remembered by all his family and friends in British Columbia, Ontario, and Pico, Azores, as well as by all those he touched through his travels.

We will always hold dear the memories of our times with Tom. He will forever reside in our hearts and memories. Let us raise a glass in his honor and celebrate the life he lived with such passion and zest. Let us also take this moment to cherish our loved ones and never take a single moment for granted, just as Tom loved life and fought courageously until the end. Tom will always be remembered for being that cool tall guy who loved life and lived it to the fullest.

Cremation has already taken place. A gathering to celebrate Tom’s life will be held in the future, with details to be posted on his Facebook page.
