Daniel “Killer” Graham Sr.
1927 – 2024
Passed away peacefully at Sunnyside Palliative Care, Kitchener on Friday January 12, 2024, at the age of 96 years.
Born March 20, 1927, in Glasgow Scotland. Danny enlisted in the Royal Navy and served on several submarines during WWII before moving to Liverpool where he got his City & Guilds degree in Painting and Decorating. He moved back home to Glasgow to work in the family business, Graham’s Licensed Grocer’s until he moved to Canada in 1966 with his son Daniel. After working as a painter and decorator in Kitchener he moved to Vancouver in 1979 where he worked at the University of British Columbia and then as a commissioner attached to the RCMP detachment at UBC until 2010 when he moved back to Kitchener after a heart attack and a quintuple bypass. Shortly after returning to Kitchener with his increasing memory issues, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s while living independently at Thaler Manor when he enjoyed 8 amazing years before getting a place at Sunnyside.
Danny was initiated into Freemasonry in Oatlands Lodge No. 1005, Glasgow Scotland on April 10, 1951, and was a life member in the Lodge and Oatlands Royal Arch Chapter. He was also a life member of Twin City Lodge in Kitchener.
Danny was also a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 50 in Kitchener and 150 in Waterloo.
Danny was a Grade 1 piper in the Royal Navy pipe band and a member of many pipe bands in Glasgow, Kitchener, and Vancouver. He continued to play his pipe until he was 93 years. He also played accordion in a band in Vancouver as well as the harmonica which led him to join the Happy Harmonica’s at the Rockway Seniors Centre. He was a boxer in the Royal Navy and he had a black belt in Judo, and a brown belt in Karate. He continued to take part in Karate tournaments until his heart attack at 78.
Danny will be missed by his family, friends and brethren in Glasgow, Kitchener, and Vancouver. He lived several lifetimes in his first 95 years and was blessed to have spent his final days at Sunnyside Long Term Care Home in Kitchener.
Cremation to take place. A Celebration of Life will take place at 2:00 pm on Sunday February 25, at the Cambridge Masonic Centre, 1 Groh Ave, Cambridge, ON N3C 1Y6
