Dorothy Joyce Ritchie (née Giles)

Dorothy Joyce Ritchie (née Giles), aged 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep at The Chartwell Westmount Long-Term Care Residence in Kitchener, on January 13th, 2025.

Born on June 11th, 1942, in Chatham, Ontario, Dorothy was the second of three children born to Margaret and Harold Giles. She married and became a devoted mother to her three children: Ted, Kim, and Lisa.

Dorothy built a remarkable career in the real estate industry, serving as an Executive Officer for the Chatham Kent Real Estate Board for over 30 years. She balanced her professional life with her responsibilities as a mother, demonstrating diligence and commitment throughout.

After her retirement, Dorothy moved further East to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Her love for dogs led her to volunteer at the local animal shelter, where she dedicated her time to caring for animals in need.

Predeceased by her parents, Margaret and Harold Giles, and her sister Lilian Scammel, Dorothy leaves behind a loving family. She is survived by her children, Ted Ritchie (Tina), Kim Labelle (Paul), and Lisa Colaiacovo (Mario). Dorothy's legacy continues through her six cherished grandchildren: Megan, Ryan, Lisa, Britney, Anthony, and Domenic. She is also survived by her brother Jim Giles, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In honoring Dorothy's wishes, an immediate cremation will take place, followed by the spreading of her ashes in the spring. Contributions to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada are welcomed.
