Garfield (Gary) Chesson

1939 - 2023

Garfield passed away February 7, 2023 at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Devoted partner of Vivienne Tereshyn for 29 years.  Loving father of Katherine Bonin (deceased),  Julie Saunders and Christopher Chesson. Survived by brothers Michael Rowe and Peter Rowe, grandchildren Michael, Chastity, Joel, Adam, Jacob, Liam and Hannah, plus several great-grandchildren. Included in his life tapestry is his beloved extended family Paul Tereshyn and son Kyle Gambrel and Andrea (Bill Clark).

Garfield led an interesting life. He served in the armed forces in his youth then went on to a successful career in news media, beginning with the Hamilton Spectator then switching in 1971 to radio news, working in Regional Niagara, Branford, Toronto, Ottawa, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, back to Edmonton, and subsequently returning to Toronto. Upon leaving radio news, he became involved in information research, working for several Toronto -based organizations, the last one being Canadian Facts. Garfield was a long time supporter of Doctors without Borders and would like any donations to be sent in his name to that organization.
