Gary Wayne Thorpe
Passed away peacefully with loved ones by his side, on September 28, 2024, at Hilltop Manor Long Term Care in Cambridge, Ontario at the age of 87 years.
Gary leaves behind his longtime and cherished wife Patricia Wright, beloved daughter Stacy Thorpe and her husband Scot Turner, stepdaughter Vicky (Rob) and their children Chase and Jordan (Jenny) Furman.
He was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Lela Thorpe, and brother Murray as well as many other dearly missed friends and family.
Gary was born in Morrisburg, Ontario and moved to the Toronto area with his family as a boy where he later attended Danforth Tech. After high school, he took drafting courses and became a draftsman, later working for Johnson Controls where he moved into Purchasing. He spent the remainder of his career working in the Purchasing field with several companies including Kellogg.
He loved almost all sports, playing and watching them, and made many great friends through this pastime. Over the years he won medals in Track and Field, coached minor league hockey, played Old Timers hockey, participated in baseball leagues, was a member of the Haliburton Curling Club, and especially in his later years, was a very active golfer.
He was a proud member of the Haliburton Legion due to his early service in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. He volunteered as a bar manager and helped organize the yearly golf tournament.
As anyone who knew him can attest to, Gary loved to have a good time and was typically the life of the party. His love of music and dancing stayed with him until the end, bringing him joy throughout his life.
Cremation has taken place and as per Gary’s wishes, there will be no formal memorial service. If you would like to celebrate him, take a moment, turn up the music and raise a glass to a life well lived. He would have loved that.
