Robert Alan “Al” Walker

July 10, 1953 - September 29, 2024

It is with profound sadness that I share the passing of my beloved father, Robert Alan Walker, known to his family and friends as “Al”.

Al passed away peacefully on September 29, 2024, at Lisaard House Hospice in Cambridge, Ontario at the age of 71 years, with his daughter by his side. Al was a beloved resident of Cambridge his whole life; he grew up in Galt as a child and also lived in Preston and Hespeler in his lifetime.

Al was a devoted father to Angela McKenna (Jamie) and a proud grandfather to Jacob, Lucas, and Maya. Caring brother to Bill Walker (Linda) and a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, William and Dorothy Walker, and his brother Doug Walker (Juneva).

Al dedicated 38 years of his life to working in Food Service at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, where his friendly demeanor left a lasting impression on all who met him. After retirement, he took on a part-time role as a Security Guard, continuing to be a dedicated employee and making meaningful connections with those around him.

A man of many talents, Al was an accomplished bowler winning numerous trophies and tournaments throughout his life and spending many hours at Dickson Bowl. His love for sports extended to softball, and he was proudly inducted into the Cambridge Sports Hall of Fame for his achievements in the Legion Squirt Youth Baseball League in 1963 - a moment of great pride for him and his family. Al continued to play softball into adulthood, participating in various teams, including the CMH league and several Industrial Leagues. A die-hard fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and the Chicago Blackhawks, he relished every opportunity to watch games and support his teams.

Al will be remembered for his humour, sociability, and the joy he brought to those around him. If you ever met Al, he remembered you.  He enjoyed spending time with friends at the local Preston Legion, where his presence will be deeply missed.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion - Preston Branch 126, 334 Westminster Dr. N, Cambridge on Friday, October 18, 2024, 6-9 pm. In honour of my dad’s wishes, I invite you to wear your favorite team jersey or sports shirt and raise a toast in his memory.

In lieu of flowers, donations made to Lisaard House Hospice or Preston Legion (Branch 126) would be appreciated by the family.

Messages and condolences may be left at www.tricitycremations.com. Please visit Al’s obituary notice on Facebook.
