Robert “Bob” Merritt

Passed away peacefully on August 24, 2024, surrounded by his family, at Toronto General Hospital in his 78th year.

Beloved husband of Sandra Merritt (nee Chard) for 56 of the best years of her life.

Cherished father of Sheri Skanes (Chris), Christie Myers (Jay), Jennifer Merritt (Dan), and is predeceased by his daughter Jody Ann Merritt.

Proud papa of Kylie, Kellen, Sydney, Jayda, Jordan and proud great grandpa to Everleigh and Mila.

Predeceased by his parents Mervin and Lucy Merritt and also by his sister Pat Karges and brother Jim Merritt.

He was a plumber by trade and enjoyed many sports including hockey, golf and baseball. He liked to keep busy in the yard and with small projects. He was known around the hill and by many others as the candy man, and would hand out candy to all the kids plus anyone else he came across. Above all family was the most important thing in his life and he cherished the time he spent with them. Bob will be deeply missed but forever remembered by the many friends he made through the years.

Cremation has taken place and as per Bob’s wishes, there will be no formal memorial service. There will be a celebration of Bob’s Life October 5 from 1-4pm at the Preston Legion 334 Westminster St North. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cambridge Minor Hockey or to the Conservative Party.
