Tecla Maria Migliaccio

1939 - 2023

We are very sad to announce the passing of Tecla Migliaccio who was the resident of University Gates, Long Term Care Home in Waterloo at the age of 83 years.  She passed away from Natural Causes.

Tecla was born July 17, 1939 to Lattanzio (Lance) Romano and Virginia (nee Pennino) in Aprigliano, fraz. Agosto, Italy.

In February of 1956, at the age of 16, Tecla boarded a ship in Naples which took 12 days to cross the Atlantic to join her father and two older siblings in Canada. She was instrumental in convincing her father to sponsor the rest of the family to emigrate to Canada in 1957.

Most of Tecla’s schooling was completed in Italy, but she was keen on improving herself, so she took night courses in English and typing while working full time during the day.  After completing courses she landed a job in the insurance business, where she carved out a successful career.

Tecla was feisty and a firecracker with fiery red hair. She loved music, singing (took singing lessons and was on stage once), dancing and entertaining friends and family.  She was a great communicator, which she used to help many people when settling in Canada; finding jobs, completing  forms and speaking with government agencies etc.

Tecla married Mario Migliaccio in 1969 at St Mary’s of the Angels Church in Toronto and they had one child, Carol.

She predeceased her husband Mario (July 2002), her parents (Jan 1988/Sept 2005), by a brother Giuseppe (Apr 1995) and by a sister Pia (Feb 2007).

Tecla  is survived by her daughter Carol, her grandson Damien, sisters Giocondo, Leda, Bianca and an extended family.

Cremation has taken place and there will be a private interment at a future date.

Donations may be made to a charity of choice as expressions of sympathy.

Messages and condolences may be left for the family at www.tricitycremaitons.com or 519.772.1237. Please visit Tecla's obituary notice on Facebook.
