Walter & Dorothy Ozaruk

Both passed away peacefully with Walter on June 29, 2021 at Sunnyside Home, Kitchener at age 92 years and more recently Dorothy (nee Hendry) at Lanark Place, Kitchener on March 19, 2024 at age 95 years.  They were married for over 58 years and we find comfort they are together again.

Dorothy was born in Toronto and spent most of her childhood in Owen Sound until moving to Waterloo in her early teens.  She worked for years at the YWCA and Dominion Life before marrying Walter in 1963 and moving to Kitchener.  She and Walter built a second home at Chesley Lake, where she spent her summers with family and friends. She was very active in Forest Hill United Church with the UCW and as a board member.  An avid quilter, she also enjoyed knitting and supported the art society with Walter in K-W and Bruce County.

Daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.  She will be greatly missed.

Walter was born in Waterloo and was very involved in the Ukrainian-Canadian community while growing up. A gifted artist, he had a long career in sign writing and fine art, as well as some teaching.  He worked for many years at JM Schneider Meats in sign writing, package design and float design. He hand painted the Dutch Girl on to the side of the Schneider trucks in the early days before graphics.  A long time member of the K-W Society of Artists and the Bruce County Shoreline Artists.

Son, Brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.  He will be greatly missed.

They were the loving and cherished parents of Rose Ann Davidson (Jim) of Barrie. Very proud grandparents of Matthew, Andrew and Robert.

Predeceased by Walter’s brother Nick Ozaruk. By Dorothy’s brother Robert Hendry and by Dorothy’s son John, Robert, James Harker.

Cremation was completed.  A Celebration of Their life will take place in June at their beloved Chesley Lake.

They will be interred side by side in Greenwood Cemetery, Owen Sound.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in their memory to the Alzheimer’s Society as expressions of sympathy.
